37stories – God Spots

There are lots of gods!

WOW!  Lightening bolt!  There are lots of gods!  Yep.  That’s right!  There are lots of gods, but only one true God.  The problem is determining which one is the ONE true God?

Just for the moment, I’d like to step back and not be judgmental on your selection of the true God.  I’d like to post some guest appearances from your god or God as the case may be.  This is not  a religion bashing opportunity.  I could care less about your religion.  This is a sincere insightful look at God.

Almost all religions reference the Bible in some form or fashion.  So, you know there is the story of the prophets calling on their gods to start a fire in the middle of nowhere.  This is a challenge among the gods to put up or shut up.  My God is big enough to put up if He so chooses.

This is not a demand on my God.  This is a request for you to enlighten me.  If your god is the one that proves His love by demonstrating His power, I want to give you an opportunity to convince me.  I don’t want to have picked the wrong God.  No bashing.  I have sensitive skin.

If your god can’t prove His power without your help, then I have to say, “You bought into the wrong God”.  So, what will it be?  Will you accept the opportunity to have your god build a fire after my God soaks your wood with water?

If so, leave me a comment and I’ll give you a “guest blogger” login.

Situational Ethics

Have you bought into this thing called Situational Ethics and not even know it?  See if you can relate to this.  Suppose your son, who you love very much does something really despicable.  You confront him and he is ambivalent to your judgment on his behavior.  So much so that he habitually commits the same act over and over while he lives in your house, eating your food and disrupting your life.

Situational Ethics might say, “Dump the kid.  He’s no good.  He will never be any good and he is a drain on every thing you are trying to do for the rest of your family.  Understand?  You take action for the common good of the rest of the family.  Sounds admirable and likely something you may do on a regular basis in a different venue.

Now if you are a believer, there is a problem.  The problem is God.  He makes the rules.  You decide whether to follow them.  God through His Word gives us the story of the prodigal son.  Dad gives son his inheritance.  Son blows it all on wild women and song.  Son eats pig swill and finally understands his father’s unconditional love.

No where in the story does the father say to the son, “If you don’t meet my standards, you are not my son.”  A son will always be a son, regardless of whether you choose to acknowledge him as a son or not.  God makes the rules.  You choose whether to follow.

There is only abundance for those that love the Lord and live a life according to His good will and purpose.
