The Message version says, "I'm thunder in the desert: ‘Make the road straight for God!’"
It seems John had a powerful story to tell. He spoke as thunder, with a loud urgent message. He spoke of being prepared for the coming of Jesus. Make the road straight. Don't deviate from your preparation. Rid yourself of baggage that slows you down or prevents you from traveling the road. Set your eyes on the horizon. Jesus is coming again!
The message is no less poignant today! The voice of God speaks like thunder that all may hear. Jesus is coming again!
