In thinking about starting a “small church”, I wonder about organization. I’ve seen incredible organization in “big church” and I suppose it is important, although I’m not sure why. I am reading in Chronicles about the organization of the Hebrew people. It seems there was structure put at the top to create groups of responsibility, but there it ended. Individual assignment of jobs was done by casting lots or drawing names out of a hat.
.
I figure God is the God of creation. He says all things work together for the good of those that love Him. In Proverbs, the Word tells us that we toss the coin, but God controls the outcome. That is good enough for me. I wonder sometimes if organization is really just a way of fulfilling another’s need for control. I’m all for tossing the coin a little more and manipulating people a little less.
.
I figure a “small church” won’t need much organization. Probably, just someone to roll the dice and order the chips. In the midst of the munching, I expect God will show up and be pleased. Maybe you should drop in some time…

They cast lots…huh?

The dice of which you will be rolling…will that be a d20 or a regular ol’ d6? 😉
Bunco!! Small churches have BUNCO—Dice, and chips…count me in…we could start one here on the beach in Florida… really…we can! 🙂
Rich, I read your recent blog posting on Sound Doxology. I enjoyed the thought and appreciate the importance of being brought into worship. Thank you for stopping by. My wife recently went on a mission trip to your fair city.
And TJ. What a tease. I almost packed a bag, but the trip would have to be by bus. More God Spots!
