God Spots 
I enjoy reading the Message version, too. I like to compare the different versions so I can get a better overall “feel” for what is being said.
I once read a book by F. Peretti called, “The Oath”. This last part of the verses you posted reminds me of it. In the book, those who decided to do whatever they wanted, regardless of the consequences (and rejecting the good) had a black mark that formed on them…and smelled bad. Then it spread. It was very obvious to everyone that this person was going to die. There was only one who avoided death – and that was b/c he repented and turned back to God.

Loved the Peretti series! I think it helped form a more real imagination of how the evil ones may choose to work. I fell in love with the Word through a tough struggle and consuming the Message version.
