I love God the best I know how and He loves me much better. Religion is quick to water down the concept of “fear” of God to merely a Holy reverence. I am sure this reference is part of the quality of God, but I am equally sure to fear God is much more robust in meaning.
Imagine if you will a God capable of creating and destroying everything ever built. Imagine…. if that God ever got hacked off at your and my lack of obedience. Just imagine… Imagine fear of that God….
Now remember what that eternally all powerful entity referred to as God chose to do for you and I on the cross with His son. He allowed His son to die an unspeakably horrible death such that we might have eternal life. Imagine the love required for God to allow the killing of His Son to happen…. Just imagine….
I think that is a bit more of the fear of God we are to have. We are to reverence and appreciate what God could do with our disobedience and revel in the love He chooses to give in stead of the punishment. The reality of fear for what God could do, authenticates the love He chooses to give.
Today I choose to walk in fear of a loving God. I will enjoy His grace, but not forget He is the creator. It is to be in the middle of His will and purpose that I choose to walk today. I pray I will not fail to walk with Jesus…. Amen
“They were multiplied, walking in the fear of the Lord and in the
comfort of the Holy Spirit.”~Paul

Another great insight and entry onto your blog. Keep teaching us, Archie. Keep our eyes focused on what matters. I love and appreciate you. Rich
pray for us too…
Hi Archie;
I never “feared” God. You cannot “love” anything you are terrorized or scared of can you?
It is like a domestic situation gone bad and the beaten, downtrodden woman staying with her “man” despite his rages and he eventually murders her.
Was that her “love” or a spirit so battered it no longer had the strength or will of self preservation.
I cannot think of God in human terms such as that. God is not man, thank God. 🙂
Ich. It is always a thrill when you post. Doesn’t mean I agree. Just means I am thrilled when you post.
Possibly, life could be richer and fuller with a healthy fear of God. It is not about a godly fear of wife beating. It is about knowing and appreciating a God who has the power to do anything He chooses and yet chooses to love us in spite of our spitting in His face in our disobedience.
Hi Archie;
Who is spitting in whose face? 🙂
The problem with most people is they think God is hanging around unseen and after they kick the bucket they will see a face they have spit on all those years when they didn’t think God was looking.
When we do something perceived by our conscience as wrong and if it against one of the commandments as being of God, we are raked over the coals by conscience and society.
Unfortunately the capacity to break all the laws or offend our conscience is “built” into every one of us. If you need proof, I am alive. 🙂
However, God sad in Genesis “Go forth and multiply”, which I perceive as having intercourse and making babies as I do not know of any other way for humans to multiply.
In Genesis there was only one man and woman created at the beginning. They had children and their children had children.
Unless there were some earth dwellers around since the beginning this thing called incest must have come into play which is against the commandment of “thou shalt not commit adultery”, which includes a whole bunch of sexual no, nos leading to the celibacy thing the Catholics are up in arms about.
I think that God knew all of this before hand as God is immortal. How could God judge all of us one way or the other when this confusion comes into play? After all we are just peons with limited intellectual capacity and a ton of emotions to deal with and varying degrees of self discipline.
To each his own my friend and to each his or her communication with God.
